The Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) extends its warmest revolutionary greetings and heartiest congratulations to the Haryana Municipal Employees and the Fire Department workers led by the Sarva Karmachary Sangh (SKS) for their historic and resounding victory. This resounding triumph is a direct result of the militant leadership and strategic resolve of the SKS; whose pivotal role in organizing and sustaining this struggle has forced a reluctant administration to its knees. By paralyzing the state administration from 1 May 2026 and mobilizing the massive All India State Government Employees Federation’s strong solidarity wave on 14 May, our Haryana state leadership has proven that organized class defiance is the only language the ruling class understands.
CITU proudly stands with the families of our fallen heroes, as this struggle has successfully corrected a grave injustice. We salute the memory of firefighters Bhavichand Sharma and Ranbir Singh, whose families will finally receive RS.50 lakh compensation and government jobs, ending the government's discriminatory delay. The agreement to regularize 13,000 municipal employees and fire staff up to the age of 55 is a landmark win against the exploitation of contractualization. In addition to that, the reinstatement of nearly 5,000 dismissed workers, the withdrawal of all harassment related actions, and the implementation of a RS. 5,000 risk allowances for sewer workers and firemen represent a comprehensive defeat of anti-worker policies.
Through this struggle, the unions have secured significant financial gains for the workers, including a RS. 25,500 pay scale for fire payroll employees and a minimum salary of RS. 15,220 for door-to-door sanitation workers with full EPF and ESI benefits. The doubling of medical leave and the creation of thousands of new regular posts ensure a more secure future for those who keep our cities running. While we celebrate this massive win, we have to remain vigilant to ensure the Cabinet meeting before June 30, 2026 honours these commitments without delay. This victory in Haryana serves as a beacon of hope for the entire Indian working class, proving that when we fight together, the government has no choice but to listen.
